From Ravelry page:
The idea for this cowl came to me during my last visit to Finland. The omnipresent knitwear in bright orange or yellow worn by many Finns I’ve met made me step out of my comfort zone and cast on a cowl in color I’d never pick on my own. I deed two more for pretty wintry fairisle section and knit as fast as I could. Now, it’s my favorite accessory ;)
Ah, “Lumi” means snow in Finnish. Of course :)
Lumi is worked in the round, like a tube that’s seamed at the end. The fun part, fair isle comes first and then one color Stockinette. You can make it small and snug or continue until you’re satisfied, or run out of yarn.
Pick three colors you like and cast on.
Or you can visit Martin’s Lab shop here and use the same ones. Or other various colors we curated especially for you.
Size
Circumference: approx. 60 cm / 24”
Width: approx. 27.5 cm / 11”
Finished measurements are easily adjustable.
Yarn

Or approx. 550 m/ 601 y total of fingering yarn divided among 3 colors (about 2/3 of each skein should be plenty).
Sample was knit in the following colorways: Squirrel (MC), Ash (CC1), Altair (CC2).
Needles
4.0 mm / US #6 circular needle, (40 cm / 16” long), or size needed for gauge;
4.5 mm / US #7 circular, (40 cm / 16” long), or one size bigger than gauge needles.
Notions
crochet hook (the same size as needle) and scrap yarn for provisional cast-on, marker, tapestry needle for weaving, extra needle for grafting
Gauge
26 sts and 34 rnds = 10 cm / 4” in St st and Fair isle pattern worked in the round with needle 4.0 mm / US #6.
Take time to save time and check your gauge. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. You may need to use a different size for St st and fair isle pattern so that they have the same gauge!
***
We recommend reading about yarn care before washing and working with the yarn. Although every effort is made to exhaust the dye bath of color you may find a little color bleed on the first washes.
*** I try to depict the true color of yarn but please remember each monitor will be different. If you have any questions regarding the color, feel free to drop me an email.
